Rush Sports and Events International, the global promoters of the Crusty Demons live shows, have announced the inaugural Australasian Freestyle Motocross Championships.
The Rush subsidiary, World Freestyle Motocross (WFMX) will conduct the championships to be held at Maryborough in Southeast Queensland on the 17th of March 2007, at the Maryborough Showgrounds.
The Australasian Championships will for the first time be televised nationally on free-to-air TV in Australia, with an announcement on the network due in December.
The largest prize pool ever offered will be up for grabs with more than $30,000 in cash, plus prizes available. Places 1 to 8 in the FMX final will all receive cash payments, with $10,000 for the winner.
Australasia’s top riders have committed to compete and with the extraordinary acceleration in the level of Australian FMX in the last 18 months, this event will be of X-Games quality.
Riders competing include Blake Williams, Matt Schubring, Robbie Maddison, Joel Balchin, Cam Sinclair, Steve Mini and Matty McFerran. Invited riders expected to compete at time of print include Luke Smith and Nick Franklin from New Zealand and Eigo Sato from Japan. Australia’s top 20 riders are all expected to apply for an invitation to compete.
The WFMX event will be a full 8 hour festival of non-stop action including:
- ‘Big Air’ championship
- ‘Step Up’ championship
- ‘Pairs Comp’, where 2 riders will pair up in a side by side and train passage of tricks.
- Mini-bike FMX championship
- Supermotard
- Quad-moto racing
The show will also feature live bands, the Crusty Babes, heaps of giveaways and a full Crusty demo performance.
Promoter Mike Porra said “we are really excited about finally having an elite championship event in this country for the sport of FMX”.
“Australian riding is now matching anything coming out of the USA. Bilko and Robbie proved that at the X-Games. The riders are really pumped about proving once and for all who is Australasia’s best freestyler and we will find out next March”.
